So, how do you choose the products that are just right for you? The first steps in preparing to select an accessible vehicle are determining your specific needs and preferences. At AVM, we can help to guide you through these steps. The next step is to consider is whether a lowered-floor minivan or a full-size vehicle is right for you.

If you will be the driver of the vehicle, you will need to give consideration to:

• Whether you can handle the mental and physical stress of driving
• Whether you will be able to transfer to a driver seat or whether you’ll need to drive from your wheelchair
• Whether you’ll need special modifications to operate the vehicle

If you will be a passenger in a vehicle, you will need to give consideration to:

• Whether you will be able to transfer to a car or van seat, or whether you’ll need to ride in your wheelchair
• What your preferences are for seating positions, visibility etc.

• Whether there will be enough space to accommodate other family members/passengers in the vehicle
